Airbus UK Broughton gained a very credible draw on their European debut on Thursday against Latvian outfit Ventspils. A crowd of 1,451 came to the Racecourse in Wrexham to witness their historic Europa League 1st qualifying round, 1st leg tie.

It was an evenly contested first half with chances at both ends. Centre forward Chris Budrys battled well against the physical Latvian defence and his strength in the box created an opening for Wayne Riley, but the right winger was denied by the visiting keeper in what proved to be the hosts best chance of the half.

The visitors' bet chance saw Sukhanon's great effort rattle the Airbus crossbar with James Coates well beaten.

The final play of the half saw Riley's free-kick wasted as his shot flew well over.

The second half started badly for the Welsh side as Ventspils took the lead straight after the break with a Simonas Paulius tap in after great work from Abdultaofik on the right wing. The Wingmakers almost responded in perfect fashion, but Ryan Wade's volley was blocked by Kaspars Dubra. From the resulting corner, Budrys fell to the floor with the ball at feet and it looked as though the referee would award a penalty, but instead he reached for the pocket and booked the Scot for diving.

Andy Preece made his first change 10 minutes after the break with Northern Ireland international Steve Jones making his debut for Wade. After two further changes with Nicky Ward and Sam Hart replacing Tom Field and Steve Abbott respectively, the hosts got their equaliser.

A second Airbus penalty shout was turned down by the Bulgarian referee Popov, but a minute later Budrys headed in at far post. As the noise levels increased, so did the Airbus hopes as Ian Kearney and Glenn Rule both spurned chances but there were no further goals.

Sicrhaodd peniad Chris Budrys gornest gyfartal i Airbus yn eu gem gyntaf erioed yn Ewrop. Doedd dim goliau yn y cyfnod cyntaf ac fe aeth Ventspils ar y blaen yn syth wedi'r egwyl wrth i Simonas Paulius rwydo'n hawdd wedi gwaith creu da gan Abdultaofik ar yr asgell dde.Pwysodd bechgyn Brychdyn yn gyson cyn i'r Albanwr roi gobaith gwirioneddol ar gyfer yr ail gymal i Andy Preece a'i fechgyn.
